How you can help Portage clean up after the tornado

PORTAGE, Mich. — Calling all volunteers!

The Portage Department of Public Safety is coordinating a volunteer event to help clean up the city following the storms and tornado that swept through on Tuesday. 

On Saturday, May 11 volunteers are asked to arrive at City Hall no later than 9 a.m. to get put into teams and assigned to work areas. 

The department said volunteers will assist with: 

  • Moving brush and limbs to the curb
  • Moving loose debris to the curb
  • Separating piles of brush and debris
  • Cleaning up damaged limbs and branches from parks

Volunteers are asked to register ahead of time with the Michigan Volunteer Registry
