GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — As summer break comes to an end, many West Michiganders tried to soak up the last bit of warm weather this weekend by heading to the beach.
"Honestly, I just like, walked out on my porch and seen how nice it was, and I was like, okay, I need to go to the beach. It's kind of a necessity," said Cedar Springs student Carter Falan.
Another West Michigan family said they were beach hopping since early Sunday morning.
"We started up in White Hall, where our boat is. Went up there for the morning and afternoon. Went down to Muskegon for a little bit. Now we're down here. We might go to the pier, do some fish and spend the rest of the night on the beach," said Spencer Brandow.
With temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s, many people were attracted to Grand Haven City Beach on Sunday. Water temperatures were in the upper 60s and many families and students were out enjoying the cool water. A group of student athletes from Grand Rapids said they came to the beach in Grand Haven to celebrate the end of summer.
"It's been super nice. I think it's a great day out and we're all just enjoying the water and getting our tan on because school is here and we're all pale again," said Grand Rapids student Olivia Peters.
Another student from Cedar Springs said he wanted to enjoy one of the last hot weekends this summer before school starts.
"We have class starting up on Wednesday, so I figured one last shebang for the summer would be great. It's just the beauty of this place, like you can't beat it in Grand Haven in the summer," said Falan.
Temperatures for the remainder of week will start out in the low 90s Monday and Tuesday, and drop to the 80s for the rest of the week. In the meantime, while the summer heat lasts the next few days, one family said they're just happy to create core bonding memories with their loved ones.
"Make time for your family when you can and that's the important part. So like I said, we always try to get away when we can. You know summer itself is short, and, you know, just try to make memories when you can, because then once they grow up, you don't have it," said Brandow.
