Owners of Ice Cream Afloat looking for new owners 1 year after opening

Owners Megan Ward and Isaiah Kinney are hoping to find someone interested in continuing Ice Cream Afloat for West Michigan boaters.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After starting their ice cream boat business—called Ice Cream Afloat—last summer, the owners are now looking for someone to carry on the torch.

Megan Ward and Isaiah Kinney first started serving ice cream out of their pontoon boat in June 2023. The couple began the business after getting married and moving to Michigan from West Virginia.

On Sunday, a post on the business' Facebook page announced that Ward and Kinney are searching for anyone interested in taking over Ice Cream Afloat.

"It saddens us to write this, but life has other plans for us," the post reads. "We will be relocating, and we will not be taking our business with us. It is our hope that someone will take over and continue our mission to serve ice cream and happiness to the boaters of Michigan."

Last summer, the boat was seen visiting different bodies of water in West Michigan selling ice cream on weekends. It was a passion project the couple took on outside of Kinney's long work weeks.

“I get to spend all day on the boat and I get to sell ice cream and make everyone's day. It definitely makes it worth it," Kinney said last year.

If you're interested in taking over Ice Cream Afloat, send them a Facebook message or email icecreamafloatmi@gmail.com.
