She is the 14-year-old girl who disappeared in 1981 from Forest Hills Central Middle School.
The investigators were assisted by MSU anthropology students. The site is behind the old Potters one-room schoolhouse.
Kent County Sheriffs Dept. Spokesman Kevin Kelley said this is one of several sites cold case investigators plan to excavate. They have searched others already.
Kent County Sheriff Larry Stelma said that no evidence was found Tuesday, but he's confident that the Deanie Peters case will be solved someday.
"There are a lot of people that would like to get some closure on this case and we'll continue to explore the leads as they come in and are available - we're not gonna quit," Stelma said.
