BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Senator JD Vance is visiting Michigan on Tuesday. It's his second trip in just three weeks.
The Trump campaign announced plans for Vance to give a speech in Big Rapids as part of a flurry of Michigan events scheduled for the two.
Remarks are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., and doors open for the event starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Majestic Friesians Horse Farms.
Vance will touch on the economy, inflation and manufacturing during his speech.
Green Charter Township has been host to controversy over plans for a manufacturing plant, Gotion's $2 billion electric vehicle battery facility.
Vance's fellow Republican and ally Mike Rogers, who is running for Michigan's U.S. Senate seat, said the Gotion project is connected to the Chinese Communist Party and shared environmental concerns. That's something VP of North American Operations Chuck Thelen has denied.
Just two weeks ago, Vance spoke at local trucking company Cordes Inc. in Byron Center.
With Kent County coveted as a key battleground in the race for Michigan and the race for the White House, 13 ON YOUR SIDE asked Vance in Byron Center about what the resource strategy was for the Trump campaign in the county.
"We're going to work hard for every single vote all across the state of Michigan," Vance said. "I wouldn't say any one county is more or less important. The whole state is important because, look, there is no state that perfectly exemplifies what is broken about American policy in Washington."
"This was one of the wealthiest states in the entire country for pretty much the entirety of the post-World War II era," he continued. "This is a state that had a proud manufacturing tradition where, whether you went to college or graduated from high school or did something in the middle, you could build a middle-class life, so long as you worked hard and played by the rules."
Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week. Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, visited Detroit in August.
Vance's visit comes as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he's suspending his bid for the White House, all while throwing his support behind former President Donald Trump.
Trump gave remarks at the National Guard Association of the United States' 146th General Conference & Exhibition in Detroit on Monday. Thursday, he's expected to host a rally in Potterville.
