KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety posted to Facebook Sunday to let the community know K9 Sledge has returned to duty.
In the video, Sledge can be seen leaping from the police car with his tail wagging, eager to be back in the action.
Sledge had been at home recovering after being stabbed in the neck on Feb. 6 while apprehending a suspect.
When officers arrived at the scene that night, they found a man armed with a box cutter, threatening to stab people.
KDPS said the man threatened to kill the officers and approached them, ignoring calls to put the knife down. Sledge was then deployed to help protect officers and those who KDPS said the man assaulted.
The suspect was apprehended, but Sledge was stabbed in the neck.
He was quickly taken to the Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Byron Center where his wounds were treated.
As of Feb. 7, Sledge was discharged from the hospital and expected to make a full recovery — which he has.
