KALAMAZOO, Mich — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is reminding the community not to drink and drive as officers had to rescue a man who was pinned between his car and a tree following a crash early Saturday morning.
According to KDPS, around 2 a.m. officers responded to a crash in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive. A vehicle was traveling on Oakland when it left the road, rolled over and hit a tree, officers said.
The driver of the car, a 55-year-old man, was partially thrown from the vehicle and pinned between it and the tree, according to officers.
Officers said they were able to safely remove the man and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.
While the crash remains under investigation, officers said they believe alcohol was a factor and want to remind everyone to drink responsibly, especially on St. Patrick's Day weekend.
Officers said it's important to have a designated driver when drinking. KDPS will have extra officers patrolling the city this weekend to address alcohol-related driving incidents.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8120 or Silent Observer at 343-2100, the “P3 Tips” app, or online here.
