KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is advising people who may have drove through sewage on Tuesday to take time to wash their vehicles.

Around 12:09 p.m. on Tuesday there was a sanitary sewer overflow on Bronson Blvd. The blockage that caused the overflow was removed just before 2 p.m.

KDPS estimated that around 300 gallons of material overflowed from the manhole. Now, they said normal flow conditions in the sewer have been restored and the impacted area has been remediated.

KDPS shared the following advisory for people who may have been driving in the area:

"If you were driving SE near the 2100 block of Bronson Boulevard, and you experienced driving through standing, steaming water on the roadway between 12:09pm – 1:50pm, the Kalamazoo Health & Community Services Department recommends that you wash your vehicle. If contact with raw sewage is made avoid spreading and tracking; clean and disinfect shoes, clothes, and skin thoroughly."
