KALAMAZOO, Mich. — One person is dead after Kalamazoo Police shot them at MLK Park Tuesday afternoon.
The Kalamazoo Public Safety Department first shared word of the shooting just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Law enforcement later shared someone alerted them to a person who threatened to harm another person with a gun.
Officers spotted the suspect in MLK Park, and that's when that suspect "presented a gun."
Two officers fired shots and struck the suspect.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital but has since died from their wounds.
No officers were hurt.
Michigan State Police are now investigating the use of force.
Both officers who fired their weapons are now on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Some areas and roads around MLK Park were shut down as investigators collected evidence from the scene.
