PARCHMENT, Mich. — A small town north of Kalamazoo was searching for a small boy who went missing early Tuesday morning until the boy was finally found at a relative's house.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Richard Fuller said 4-year-old Alexander went missing from his home in Parchment around 4:45 a.m. The family called 911 to report him missing.
Previously, 13 ON YOUR SIDE had spoken with a relative who said the boy had been found hiding in his parents' room. 13 ON YOUR SIDE later learned from authorities that that was not the case.
Fuller said the boy was found at a relative's house. While the investigation is still ongoing, Fuller said it is believed that Alexander walked about a mile to the other home.
Law enforcement and first responders were combing the area for hours, searching the heavily wooded area using eight different drones and multiple K9s. As many as 50 people were in the woods to look for the child.
"We're searching through everything we can now," Fuller said earlier in the morning. "We've looked underneath campers, we've looked in pools."
Michigan State Police put out a notice that the child was "missing and endangered."
Volunteers from the community showed up to help in the search, authorities said.
"We're getting pretty saturated with people that can help," Fuller said as the search efforts continued. "We're trying to make sure that the next search is a more detailed search."
The sheriff's office even said while they appreciate the community wanting to help, they already had a large number of volunteers and law enforcement combing through the property.
