Kent Co. Sheriff's Office finds stolen vehicle suspect with help of tips, drones

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A stolen vehicle suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday evening thanks to the help of tips and drones utilized by the Kent County Sheriff's Office. 

KCSO said around 11 p.m. deputies went to an area near 100th Street and US-131 and found a stolen vehicle unoccupied. 

However, a witness told deputies they saw the driver of the vehicle walk into the woods. 

KCSO's drone pilot used infrared technology to find the man inside another vehicle near the area. 

Deputies arrested the 27-year-old Grand Rapids man in connection to the stolen vehicle. He's in custody at the Kent County Correctional Facility. 

The case will be reviewed by the Kent County Prosecutor's Office. 

KCSO said they wanted to thank the community for their observations that helped keep everyone safe.

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich: A 27-year-old Grand Rapids man was arrested last night near 100th St and US-131 around 11:00 PM, in connection with a stolen vehicle. When Deputies arrived, they found the vehicle unoccupied; however, a witness observed the driver walk into the woods. KCSO's drone pilot utilized infrared technology and located the man inside another vehicle nearby. The man was arrested and is in custody at the Kent County Correctional Facility. The case will be reviewed by the Kent County Prosecutor's Office. KCSO extends our appreciation to our observant community because their actions help keep our community safe.
