ADA, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff's Office confirmed that first responders are on the scene of a reported ceiling collapse at the Egypt Valley Country Club Friday afternoon.
The country club is located at 7333 Knapp Street Srv Rd NE in Ada. Reports are that the ceiling collapsed in the ballroom around 4:45 p.m.
Dispatch said they did not believe there were any injuries and that everyone was successfully evacuated.
"The ceiling in there came all the way down to the floor," said Ada Township Fire Chief David Murray. "It's probably about three to four feet tall, so we had to bust through that to make sure that nobody was in there. While we were doing that, staff was confirming that all of their employees were accounted for."
Murray said the ballroom was being prepped for a wedding rehearsal for Friday night, with the reception to follow on Saturday.
"With the rehearsal going on, or tomorrow with the wedding, you know, we'd had every ambulance in town here, plus other departments," said Murray. "So, because it isn't a ceiling you're going to just pick up."
13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke to a member of the wedding party, while they wanted to remain unnamed they said the country club helped them out by putting them up in a hotel and that the wedding had been moved to the Waddell Center.
This is a developing story, we will provide updates as they become available.
