Kent County Sheriff sergeant injured after fight with alleged purse snatcher

The suspect, a 38-year-old Battle Creek man, is still on the loose.

KENT COUNTY, Michigan — A Kent County Sheriff's Office sergeant is injured after an altercation Thursday morning, deputies said. 

It happened when the sergeant pulled over a car around 10 a.m. The car, a black Dodge Durango, was allegedly linked to recent purse snatchings across Kent County. 

The sergeant learned the suspect's car was near Meijer, in the area of Alpine Avenue and Hillside Drive. During the traffic stop, the sergeant and a 38-year-old Battle Creek man got into a fight.

Despite a search, the man was not located. Police said they have identified the man.
