KENT COUNTY, Mich. — An investigation is underway after shots were fired overnight near East Kentwood High School, deputies said.
Reports of shots fired were first received around 3:30 a.m. Friday in the area of 60th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue. This area borders the East Kentwood High School property.
No one was injured, but deputies say they found shell casings at the scene.
While investigators say there is no danger to the public, there will be an increased police presence around the school on Friday out of an abundance of caution.
Officials with the Kent County Sheriff's Office say they have been working with the security team and school resource officers at East Kentwood High School.
Investigators are asking anyone who lives in the area to provide doorbell camera footage around the time of the incident if it is available. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 616-632-6125 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
