KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Deputies are investigating after three children on their way to school were allegedly approached by a stranger in Gaines Township.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. Thursday on the M-6 Trail near Division Avenue and Eastern Avenue. Three children under 13 years old were riding their bikes to school when a man approached them and asked them to go with him, according to deputies.
The children refused and called police after getting to a safe place.
Deputies are calling it a "suspicious encounter."
Deputies say this is not connected to another incident in Kent County earlier this week, when a woman in a minivan asked two children walking home if they needed a ride.
"There is no threat to the general public, but we want to keep our community informed," deputies wrote in a press release.
Anyone with information on the incident in Gaines Township is asked to contact the Kent County Sheriff's Office at 616-632-6125 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
