KENTWOOD, Mich. — The Kentwood Police Department announced Saturday the arrest of a suspect in the death of a Kentwood Public Schools (KPS) teacher.
Amber Guichelaar, 32, was found dead at her home on Nov. 16, 2020. She had two young children and was pregnant with her third child at the time of her death, according to police.
After preliminary investigation, detectives believed the cause of her death to be suspicious. Detectives worked on the case for almost two months, and with help from the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office, they were able to develop probable cause to arrest a suspect in Guichelaar’s murder.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker issued an open murder warrant for the suspect on Jan. 8, 2021. The suspect was arrested that day.
The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment on Monday, Jan. 11. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Kentwood Police Department at 616-698-6580.
