KENTWOOD, Mich. — A teenager is accused of stabbing a family member multiple times Monday morning, the Kentwood Police Department said.

Officers were called out to Ridgebrook Ave SE off of 60th Street Southeast around 11:30 a.m.

That's where they found a 43-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. First responders were able to rush him to a hospital. The man had serious injuries.

Police said a 17-year-old suspect ran away from the area on foot, but was later tracked down at a nearby business.

Because the victim and suspect are family members, police said there is no further threat to the public.

Authorities aren't sharing the name of the victim or the suspect at this time.

Both the Kent County Sheriff's Office and Kentwood Police responded to the scene. Kent County deputies assisted with the investigation with a K9 unit and a drone team.

Kentwood Public Schools went into "secure mode"—meaning doors were locked and no one was allowed to enter or exit the school—for about 50 minutes out of an abundance of caution. That was lifted around 12:30 p.m. after law enforcement gave the all-clear.
