KENTWOOD, Mich. — A teenage boy accused of attacking a family member in Kentwood earlier this week is charged as an adult.
That's according to the Kentwood Police Department who said the 17-year-old stabbed a 43-year-old family member multiple times on Monday.
Police later identified teenager as Adrian Govea, of Manistee. The victim's identification was not revealed by authorities.
A Kentwood judge arraigned the 17-year-old on assault with intent to commit murder and carrying a concealed weapon charges.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, officers were called out to Ridgebrook Ave SE off of 60th Street Southeast.
That's where they found a 43-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. First responders were able to rush him to a hospital. The man had serious injuries but is now stable.
Police said the 17-year-old suspect ran away from the area on foot, but was later tracked down at a nearby business.
Because the victim and suspect are family members, police said there is no further threat to the public.
Both the Kent County Sheriff's Office and Kentwood Police responded to the scene. Kent County deputies assisted with the investigation with a K9 unit and a drone team.
Kentwood Public Schools went into "secure mode"—meaning doors were locked and no one was allowed to enter or exit the school—for about 50 minutes out of an abundance of caution. That was lifted around 12:30 p.m. after law enforcement gave the all-clear.
