The Woodland Mall has been around for as long as Kentwood has been a city. Built in 1968, the mall has set the standard in West Michigan for decades.
Renovations have come about every decade, with the most recent coming in March, 2017. A multi-million dollar expansion will begin as Sears closes, and West Michigan welcomes its first Von Maur.
Woodland Mall attracts neighboring towns as well -- allowing its impact to stretch beyond Kentwood.

"If you look at most of Kentwood, a lot of the economy focuses on 28th Street," said Lyndsey Hicks, Woodland Mall's marketing director. "It's great to see that it's becoming more of a community. It doesn't have an actual downtown, but it's starting to have an actual downtown, more families are moving into Kentwood.
"It's becoming less commercial, and it's its own city."
Along with Von Maur, the mall is expected to add more shops, restaurants and attractions in its expansion.
