MUSKEGON, Mich. — History buffs, there's something exciting coming to the lakeshore this summer.
You can learn about Muskegon's history, legends and lore with the Lakeshore Museum Center's walking tours this summer.
The Legends and Lore Tour will cover the area's most exciting anecdotes. Some examples include a Muskegon detective who met a gangster on the run, bombs that were once planted in downtown Muskegon and the massive lumbering strike that almost turned deadly.
This walking tour will be offered in the mornings from June to August, with an afternoon tour added in July.
A separate tour, the Historic Walking Tour, will take you past many of Muskegon's historic business and residences, including the McCraken building, the Century Club and Western Avenue. This tour will take place in the afternoons in June and August, as well as a morning tour in July.
The walk is about one mile in distance and 90 minutes in length. Tours are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the following dates:
- June 18, 21
- July 9, 12, 16, 19
- August 6, 9, 20, 23
Tickets cost $13 for museum members and $15 for non-members. Complete information about specific tours and times can be found on their website.
