A longtime cemetery sexton has been charged with stealing or misappropriating between $50,000 and $100,000 dollars.

Van Buren County deputies say members of the Hartford Township Board asked a forensic auditor to look into the case, involving 61-year-old Gerrie Heskett.

Hartford Township oversees both Pioneer Cemetery on Red Arrow Highway and Maple Hill Cemetery on County Road 687, according to its website.

Deputies have not released the exact amount of money Heskett is accused of taking. However, she was formally charged in South Haven on Wednesday, June 14.

Heskett's next court date is July 5.
