(WZZM) -- It's starting to look and feel a lot more like spring here in West Michigan. With warmer temperatures and lots of sunshine expected over the next few days, the landscape isn't the only thing changing. Lake Michigan's "sea-scape" is looking quite different, too.
In a satellite image from less than a month ago, Lake Michigan only had about 30% open water.
Fast forward to early March, and we're now seeing less than half of the lake covered by ice.
Last year, the bitterly cold winter left us just shy of setting a new record for ice coverage on Lake Michigan. The following summer, we experienced higher-than-average lake levels and much cooler water temperatures.
We are already showing a similar trend to last year, so this could indicate another summer of cooler water temperatures and higher lake levels.
