LANSING, Mich. — The Spartan Strong fund has announced it has set aside money to reimburse those who have sought mental health services after the tragic school shooting on Michigan State’s campus in February of 2023.
MSU’s Assistant Provost and Executive Director of University Health and Wellbeing, Alexis Travis, says the fund was created because of an outpouring of support from people after the tragic shooting.
Through donations, this fund received two million dollars in support, in which $500,000 of the fund will be used for this reimbursement plan.
The fund is available to anyone, from students to staff and first responders.
So far the fund has received applications from 71 people.
“What we find is under the best of circumstances, it can be challenging for people to access mental health services. And we know one of the barriers is often financial. And so we don't want us Spartans to worry about the financial burden associated with accessing mental health care services,” said Travis.
You can fill out an application right now for the fund.
With that application, you will need to have certain documents attached, which includes an explanation of the benefit on an invoice for the out-of-pocket costs for the treatment, and proof the client made the payment.
It could also take up to 30 days for the reimbursement to be approved.
