Grand Rapids Brewing Company auctioning off restaurant contents weeks after closing announcement

The Grand Rapids Brewing Company is selling off everything in a liquidation auction weeks after the closing announcement.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Have you ever wanted to own a piece of Grand Rapids craft beer history? Now is your chance!

The Grand Rapids Brewing Company is selling off everything in a liquidation auction weeks after they announced that they were permanently closing.

In February, a fire damaged the brewery's kitchen and HVAC system, forcing it to close for repairs. While that closure was intended to be temporary, brewery staff decided to make it permanent.

Now, the brewery is selling off everything from their Downtown Grand Rapids location on the auction site Biddergy.com.

There are over 320 items up for auction, which includes things like:

  • Stainless steel fermenters
  • Dining tables and chairs
  • Whiskey barrels
  • Kegs
  • Televisions
  • Wall art
  • Signs
  • Glassware
  • Beer tap handles
  • Refrigerators

The online auction begins on Thursday, April 18 at 8 a.m. Opening bids range from $5 to $25, with most items beginning at just $5.

The Grand Rapids Brewing Company began in 1893 as a collective of six breweries. Over the decades, the company became one of the largest in the Midwest, with help from their flagship beer Silver Foam.

Prohibition forced Grand Rapids Brewing Company to stop production. The company later merged with other breweries and left Grand Rapids following the repeal of Prohibition.

In 2012, Grand Rapids Brewing reopened in downtown Grand Rapids.
