GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A touring Smithsonian exhibit is making a stop at a Grand Haven library next month.
"Spark! Places of Innovation" arrives at Loutit District Library on Jan. 20 and will be available to visit until Feb. 25.
The exhibit showcases innovations from rural communities, including some innovations from local communities.
The library partnered with other organizations in the area like the Tri-Cities Historical Museum, the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, the Midwest Miniature Museum and more to supplement the exhibit with local innovations.
Some of the local exhibits in "Spark! Places of Innovation" will include things like the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, the Grand Haven Musical Fountain, Poppen’s Snurf Board and more.
The exhibit will explore stories of how rural communities overcame challenges and created opportunities through innovation. These stories focus on the creativity that ignited social, artistic, technological or cultural changes.
The library says that you can learn answers to questions like “How did the Coast Guard Festival get its start?” and “How did the Grand Haven’s industrial docks turn into the beautiful waterfront it is today?”
You can learn more about "Spark! Places of Innovation" and other events and exhibits by visiting the library's website.
