IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — A Lowell 17-year-old is reported to be in stable condition after running off the road and crashing into a tree late Friday night.

According to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office, around 11:40 p.m. deputies responded to reports of a crash on West Grand River Avenue near Mick Road in Boston Township.

Deputies said through their investigation they determined the teen was driving a black Volkswagen Jetta and traveling eastbound on Grand River Avenue.

When he passed another car, at what deputies said was reported as a high speed, the Jetta left the road on the north side and crashed into a tree.

Deputies said he was taken to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

ICSO said speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.
