LOWELL, Mich. -- The first attempt to auction off equipment from the Lowell biodigester didn't go well earlier this month, so the owner will says he will try again in April.
The $6.5 million facility was built in 2015 to convert animal waste from local farms, oil and grease into energy. However, design flaws caused a strong odor in the surrounding neighborhood and after residents complained, the city eventually shut it down.
There were no bids during the first online auction, so a new one has been scheduled for April 19 on Biddergy.com. The starting price for all of the equipment is $250,000, but you can place bids on individual pieces of equipment as well.
