LUDINGTON, Mich. — Ludington State Park will be partially closed for nearly nine months as it gets some improvements to its roads, parking lots and pedestrian walkways.

Much of the park will be off limits until July 1, 2025 while crews work to do pavement work on the park's main road and the Hamlin Lake day-use area parking lot, expand parking at Lake Michigan and the warming shelters and enhancing traffic and pedestrian flow at the park entrance.

The renovations are made possible by $4.26 million in federal relief funding pulled from the state's Building Michigan Together Plan, which drew upon $250 million in federal relief money distributed to states to help with critical infrastructure needs.

The Ludington State Park project will result in the closure of much of the northern half of the park. But, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said that there will still be 2,000 acres of parkland to enjoy.

The day of the partial closure has come, folks. We cannot believe the day has arrived! Please take a look at this map...

Hiking trails and a boardwalk will be open south of the Big Sable River during the renovations, but all of the trails will be closed north of the river. Roadside parking for the trails south of the river will be available along M-116 and at the Skyline Trail parking lot.

You can stay up to date with the renovations and see the closure map on the Ludington State Park Facebook page.
