Made in Michigan: Highway signs in Grand Blanc Township

A Michigan-based company is responsible for making the official road signs that we all see every day.

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Since 1998, Michigan Highway Signs has been making thousands of road signs every year. The signs are primarily used in Michigan, but they can also be found in other parts of the Midwest.

The company originally started in Lansing and Utica, but it moved to its current home in Grand Blanc Township in 2004.

All aspects of production are based out of Michigan: Chopping, applying reflective sheeting, making the signs. This makes it feasible for Michigan Highway Signs to fulfill orders within a few days.

Because Michigan winters can be rough, MHS stays busy.

What's next for the company? They are going to start putting hidden messages on signs for autonomous cars. Those vehicles will be able to read an embedded sign within the normal version so it knows where to go.
