Man accused of 2023 Muskegon Heights murder takes plea agreement

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A man accused of shooting and killing a woman in Muskegon Heights in 2023 has taken a plea agreement. 

Jermaine Clifford was originally charged with six counts:

  • Count 1: Open murder
  • Count 2: Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder
  • Count 3: Possession of weapons by a felon
  • Counts 4, 5, 6: Weapons, felony firearm offense second notice

He took a plea agreement for manslaughter, habitual offender 4th offense. Counts two through six were dismissed. 

Clifford is set to be sentenced on Dec. 5. 

On Oct. 30, 2023, at 2:50 p.m. Muskegon Central Dispatch received calls of shots being fired in the 2300 block of Howden Street in Muskegon Heights. 

Callers reported several shots being fired and one caller said someone was shot. 

Muskegon Heights Police officers were dispatched to the scene and when they arrived, they found a 38-year-old Muskegon Heights woman with a gunshot wound. 

MHPD began to treat the victim until the Muskegon Heights Fire Department and Trinity Health EMS arrived. She was then taken to the hospital for further treatment. 

On Nov. 1, 2023, MHPD said the victim succumbed to her injuries and died. She was identified as Carrie Golidy.
