GRANT, Michigan — A man was arraigned for building homemade explosive devices, then trying to get rid of them, Grant Police say.
Detectives from the Kent County Sheriff's Office told Grant Police a man living in the area was possibly building bombs on Jan. 2. They said the devices were partially dismantled and disabled, then thrown into his trash receptacle.
The Michigan State Police's bomb squad were called in. They were able to find the devices in the man's trash.
The Sheriff's Office then arrested 30-year-old Luke Isaac Terpstra. He was arraigned in the 78th District Court on Jan. 4.
Terpstra was charged with one count of having explosives with unlawful intent. He was given a $1 million bond. If convicted, he could face 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
His probable cause hearing will be on Jan. 18, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Jan. 25.
