KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is investigating a fatal crash in Oakfield Township.

KCSO said they responded to a single-car crash Thursday night on Montcalm Avenue, just south of 16 Mile Road.

A preliminary investigation into the crash by police concluded that a 2003 Hyundai Sonata was driving northbound on Montcalm Ave when the car lost control, left the road and hit a tree.

The passenger, a 39-year-old man from Sand Lake, was killed in the crash.

The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Sand Lake, had minor injuries from the crash.

The identification of the victims has not yet been released.

The crash is currently under investigation by the KCSO Traffic Safety Unit. Investigators believe that speed was likely a factor.
