Man heading to trial after allegedly hitting, killing woman and driving away

The 24-year-old man was arrested six months after allegedly hitting and killing a woman walking near 28th Street and then driving off.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — A man is heading to trial six months after a hit-and-run crash killed a woman, Grand Rapids Police said.

Centell Isom, 24, was arrested and charged with failure to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in death. This is a felony charge.

Donna Nguyen, 55, was identified as the victim of the crash

Isom is accused of hitting and killing Nguyen around 2:10 a.m. on March 17 while driving near 28th Street and Eastern Avenue SE. Investigators said he then drove off, continuing west on 28th Street.

Witnesses described the car to police: a 2019 blue Ford Fusion. Officials released that description to the public days after the crash, saying it would have significant damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle, including a damaged headlight, bumper, hood and fender.

Isom's trial date has not been set.
