LUDINGTON, Mich. — A man is in critical but stable condition after being pulled from the water at Stearns Beach on Wednesday evening, according to the Ludington Police Department

Around 5:30 p.m. LPD, the Ludington Fire Department, Life EMS and Mason County Water Emergency responders were all dispatched to the beach for a report of a man drowning.

Police said the caller reported that at that point, the man had been struggling for five minutes.

LPD said the initial first responders on the scene were the Mason County Sheriff's Office Marine Deputies, who were patrolling the area, and a LPD patrol officer.

Police said four young adults from Ludington had found the man in the water and worked together to swim with the unresponsive man to the MCSO boat.

Once the man was on the boat, MCSO and LPD crews began CPR.

The man was taken to the Loomis Street Boat Launch where LFD and Life EMS took over lifesaving measures and took the man to the hospital.

The victim was treated at a Ludington hospital before being flown by AeroMed to a hospital in Grand Rapids.

As of now, police said the man is in critical, but stable condition.
