A 36-year-old Hersey man is accused of disrupting a graduation celebration with a machete in Mecosta County Saturday afternoon.
Michigan State Police said troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post along with the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office got a call about a disturbance at the Green Township Hall in Paris around 2 p.m.
A man with a machete shattered the glass of the front door to the hall with his machete, police said, and opened the side door to make his way inside where a graduation party was underway.
That's when he started waiving his machete and making statements like, "Everyone was going to hell," MSP said.
Three attendees used a chair to push the man out of the building.
He left before law enforcement arrived, but it wasn't long before other authorities found him.
The man drove onto the lawn of the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office where a corrections officer started talking to him. At that point, the man threatened the officer with the machete, MSP said.
Other law enforcement arrived to help calm down the scene, and police were able to subdue him without any injuries.
He's now sitting in the Mecosta County Jail pending multiple felony charges.
"Thankfully no one was injured in either of the incidents," Lt. Michelle Robinson said in a statement. "Special thanks to the Mecosta County Central Dispatchers and all involved agencies who worked diligently to bring an end to these dangerous encounters."
