'PAINT THE PLOW' | MDOT asking for high school students to paint snow plow blades

High schools across the state will be able to submit designs for painting the many snow plow trucks in Michigan.

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is asking for high school student volunteers to participate in their "Paint the Plow" program.

High schools across the state will be able to submit designs for painting the many snow plow trucks in Michigan.

Students will be tasked with creating original designs within the scope of a theme set by MDOT.

This year's theme is "Go hands-free. Just drive. It's the law," which was chosen to remind drivers of the hands-free legislation passed in 2023.

"Communicating the importance of this message on MDOT plow blades tasked with clearing our roads of ice and snow through the winter will serve as an additional reminder of the responsibility all drivers must take when operating their vehicle," MDOT wrote in a release.

MDOT is accepting applications now through Friday, May 17. Schools that are selected will be notified before the end of the school year and have the plow blade delivered at the beginning of the next school year in the fall.

After receiving the snow plow blades, students will have about six weeks to complete their design.

Your school can submit their application and learn more about the Paint the Plow program here.
