GRATIOT COUNTY, Mich. — A prisoner was seriously injured after they attempted to escape from a moving transport vehicle on Thursday, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said around 7:40 a.m. they were transporting a prisoner to the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC).
When they reached Gratiot County, deputies said the prisoner was able to escape from the rear compartment of the moving transport vehicle.
According to deputies, the prisoner has life-threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
