GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Meijer has doubled the milk discount it offers eligible participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Now, those eligible to participate in SNAP will receive 40 percent off of any brand or size of 1 percent or fat-free milk at Meijer.
The discount will apply on milk purchases made online and in store at Meijer supercenters, neighborhood markets and Express locations. It will stay in effect until fall 2026.
SNAP is part of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
To get SNAP benefits, you must apply in the state you currently live and meet certain requirements, including income and resource limits.

Those who are found eligible will receive SNAP benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which functions like a debit card.
Benefits for participants are automatically loaded into their account each month, which can be used to buy groceries at authorized food stores and retailers.
In December 2023, Meijer began offering 20 percent off of milk as part of an "Add Milk" initiative. On its website, Meijer said the initiative is thanks to a grant awarded by Auburn University's Hunger Solutions Institute.
Meijer said it was selected to partner on Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives (HFMI) projects, which had been established by the 2018 Farm Bill to promote milk as a healthy part of a diet.
"As a family-owned company, Meijer values its customers and their needs. That's why we're really happy to be collaborating with Auburn University to reduce the cost of milk for SNAP participants and help them get more value from their purchases," Meijer Vice President of Grocery Calli Schmid said. "Milk is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, and with this increased discount, we're able to stretch our customers' dollars even further."
Meijer celebrated the increased discount on milk on June 28 with Senator Debbie Stabenow, representatives from the Michigan Milk Producers Association, the International Dairy Foods Association and Auburn University's Hunger Solutions Institute.
Meijer offers free home delivery for SNAP customers and a 10 percent discount on SNAP purchases of qualifying produce. SNAP benefits can be used on the Meijer app.
