GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - When we thought the Frederik Meijer Gardens couldn't get any better, they unveiled a rooftop sculpture garden complete with art, horticulture and a breathtaking view.
The Stuart and Barbara Padnos Rooftop Sculpture Garden is open to the public on Friday, May 17. The 15,000 square-foot garden sits on the top of the new Covenant Learning Center, overlooking the wetlands on the east side of the park. The rooftop garden is a flexible space for weddings or various other gatherings.

The rooftop garden area will be the home to four pieces of sculpture on long-term loan from the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. The pieces are from Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, David Smith and Marino Marini. The loan was made possible with Meijer Gardens' ongoing relationship with Hirshhorn dating back to a long-term loan of Alexander Calder’s Two Discs in 2007.
The Padnos Rooftop Sculpture Garden is part of the Welcoming the World: Honoring a Legacy of Love expansion -- a $115 million project that is addressing the need for growth in the institutions 24-year history.
