Over $2 million raised through Meijer LPGA Classic

Over the past 10 years, $12 million has been donated to support food pantries in the Midwest through the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Each year, the Meijer LPGA Classic raises money for Simply Give, a program that supports food pantries in the Midwest. This year, tournament organizers set an ambitious goal of raising $2 million.

That goal was reached over the weekend, bringing the total amount donated to local food pantries since the tournament began to $12 million.

The Meijer LPGA Classic brings the world's best female golfers to Blythefield Country Club in Belmont with the goal of supporting those in need. The four-day event includes family-friendly activities and unique food options. Officials say the 2024 LPGA Classic brought in a record-breaking amount of fans.

This year, Lilia Vu took home the win despite playing for the first time since the Ford Championship in late March due to a back injury. But it's not Vu's first time winning on the LPGA Tour—this marked her fifth win.

"I think this is the most meaningful win, because there was a time two months ago where I was just crying on the range not sure if I would ever play a tournament again without pain. To be here today, it's just incredible," said Vu. "Just the team I have around me, they've supported me through everything and I just can't believe that we're in this position today – definitely wasn't in the mindset of winning. I just happened to win. I'm very grateful for everything."

Along with the $2 million raised during the tournament, Meijer will be donating an additional $25,000 to a hunger relief organization of Vu's choice.

"This tournament goes beyond the golf course, making a substantial impact on hunger relief through our Simply Give program and helping to keep our local food pantry shelves stocked for families in need," said Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes. "From the players to our spectators, community partners, and volunteers, the impact of this event continues to make a difference for our neighbors in need."

Officials said planning for the 2025 tournament is already underway, and that the dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
