GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Four Kent County corrections officers are facing criminal charges related to the possession of marijuana.
The United States Postal Service called the Kent Area Drug Narcotics Enforcement team about a suspicious package which was found to contain marijuana. During the investigation, officers from the narcotic's team determined the corrections officers were allegedly making large quantities of a marijuana extract called marijuana butter.
The four suspects are all Kent County Sheriff's Department Corrections officers. The first is Sgt. Tim Bernhardt, a 22-year veteran of the department. He's charged with the delivery and manufacture of marijuana and conspiracy to deliver and manufacture.
Officer Mike Frederick, a 24-year veteran, is charged with delivery and manufacture of marijuana and conspiracy to deliver and manufacture, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
The other two officers are, Todd VanDoorne, a 22-year veteran; he is charged with possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a drug house.
Officer Brian Tennant, a 20-year veteran, is charged with delivery and manufacture and possession of a controlled substance.
All four corrections officers have been arraigned and bond was set at $2,000 each. All have been put on administrative leave by the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
