CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A theology professor from Cornerstone University is facing two criminal charges, accused of being a 'peeping tom.'
Jeremy Grinnell is charged with two counts of 'surveilling an unclothed person.' Jail records show Grinnell was jailed and released on November 8. It's alleged he watched a 37 year old woman and a partner having sex at her home in Cannon Township near Rockford.
Bob Sack, Cornerstone University's Executive Director of Marketing issued the following statement, "Cornerstone University and GRTS are stunned and saddened by the news. Dr. Grinnell has been immediately placed on administrative leave pending further investigation and the legal process." Sack goes on to say, "Please be in prayer for the Grinnell family during this difficult time."
Grinnellwas alsoateaching pastor at Bella Vista Church in the Rockford area but resigned on November 17th. Lead Pastor Mark Pietscher discussed the resignation during hissermon that Sunday, "Maybe you think the resignation of our teaching pastor is the worst possible thing that could happen to our church?" Pietscher went on to tell the congregation that maybe God uses occasions like this to help them learn and avoid something similar in their lives.
"If you have come here to Bella Vista Church only to hear Jeremy's preaching, that's all that's called you here and held you here, it's understandable that you are probably going to need to find another teacher," Pietscher told the church.
Police don't say how or if Rev Grinnell knew the 37 year old woman he accused of watching, but say he knew which was her bedroom window.
Dr. Grinnell answered the door when he we went to his home inCannon Township home and politely said, because of his legal situation, he is unable to comment on the case."
