GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- An iconic commercial property in West Michigan is being sold.

Steelcase announced Friday it's selling its pyramid building at 6100 E Paris Ave. SE to Norman Pyramid, LLC. The furniture maker said it had been on the market for four years. The sales price was not released.

Steelcase described Norman as a well-established firm with experience re-purposing corporate buildings. Norman presented a cash offer after a previous contract was terminated, Steelcase said. An education group, Education Campus Investors, had been pursuing the property and wanted to turn it into a place for students to focus on learning science, technology, engineering, and math.

Jerry Zandstra, a spokesman for Education Campus, said Friday there remains the chance his group will use the pyramid for its education and training programming. "We've met with the principals and had good initial conversations on trying to figure out if there's a fit" Zandstra said Friday.

A spokesman for Colliers International West Michigan, Tom DeBoer, said Norman Pyramid would like to find a single user for the unusual building. DeBoer said the deal came together very fast - what normally would be a six month transaction closed in just three weeks, DeBoer said Friday.

DeBoer said Norman would like to find a single user for the facility. Norman owns a casino in Tahoe, but DeBoer said there are no plans to bring a casino to the pyramid.
