'FEEL THE LOVE' | Company to donate a free furnace to someone in West Michigan

Between now and August 31, the company will be taking nominations, looking for someone in the community who is deserving and in need of a new furnace.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The temperatures reached over 90 degrees in parts of West Michigan on Monday, so it may not seem like the time to be thinking about winter. But colder temperatures will be here before you know it, and Schaafsma Heating & Cooling is looking to make this winter warmer and safer for someone deserving.

"We partner with Lennox Industries, and one of their programs is called 'Feel The Love.' So what we do in that partnership is donate equipment and labor for someone deserving that just goes above and beyond, that needs new heating and cooling equipment. So the end cost for that user is zero," said general manager Chris Gessner.

The company needs help finding someone worthy of that new furnace. They're taking nominations through Saturday, August 31. Those nominations can be submitted online.

"It's amazing to be able to give back to a community that has kept us in business for going on 120 years," said service director David Buren.

"I think it's an excellent opportunity for the community to also give back to itself, as far as having your neighbors that are nominating other neighbors. It might not be for themselves, they're actually thinking selflessly and giving a neighbor an opportunity to get a heating and cooling system that they may not have been able to afford, or may not even had in the past. So it feels really good."

Once the company receives the nominations, they'll contact the nominees and do some visits before making a decision on the winner by the middle of September. The install will happen around the second week in October.

"Regardless of whether you're a winner or not, we would reach out make sure you know how that process went, if you were chosen or not, and then if there is anything else that we can do to help things along for the nominees that maybe didn't win. We can see if we can't figure some other things out," Gessner said.
