GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - Many consider baseball America's pastime, but many kids no longer play it. That's why volunteers at the Grand Rapids Police Department decided to start a new youth baseball league.
The program has been underway now for two weeks so far, and dozens of kids from around Grand Rapids play Tuesdays at Belknap Park (near Division NE and Coldbrook) or Thursdays at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (on Fuller SE near Franklin).
The GRPD partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids to create this league.
"The department has a long history of taking part in programs that are aimed at benefiting kids," said GRPD community officer Aaron Rossin.
The program hopes to teach the fundamentals of baseball while connecting with police officers.
