'Homes Giving Hope' thanks supporters as it prepares to open its next home

The Rockford-based organization provides independent living opportunities to people who have special needs.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The Gilmore on West River Drive looked like something out of the roaring 20s on Thursday night, as the venue hosted "Glam, Glitz, and Gastby," this year's theme for Homes Giving Hope's annual gala.

Since 2020, Homes Giving Hope has been providing "safe and supportive housing for individuals with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities."

The organization will soon open its fourth home, welcoming four new residents by the end of the year. It comes as welcome news to the nearly two dozen people on the waitlist, as well as current residents who know how much this opportunity means.

"I really like it. It's good to be sort of on my own with, with my parents still supporting me, but having support from my roommates is really nice," said resident Quinn Shideler.

"It's definitely a blessing from God, and there's just a sense of community and everyone is just so wonderful that lives in Homes Giving Hope."

13 ON YOUR SIDE anchor Juliet Dragos served as emcee of the event.
