LANSING, Mich. — Michigan drivers could see a new law being enforced on roads this winter aimed at making snowplow drivers more safe.
The law, signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in July, makes it illegal to follow snowplow trucks more closely than 200 feet. Drivers can be pulled over and given a civil infraction and a fine of up to $100 for breaking the law.
The law also makes it illegal to stop closer than 20 feet from a snowplow that is stopped at or in an intersection.
The new law applies only for snowplows that are operating for the state, a county, a road commission or a municipality.
