BACK-TO-BACK | Zeeland's Connor Scholten wins second straight National Yo-Yo title

Connor Scholten says he's not sure if he'll return to the competition in 2019 to go for the three-peat.

HOLLAND, Mich. - He's done it again.

For the second consecutive year, Zeeland native Connor Scholten can call himself a national yo-yo champion.

The 2018 National Yo-Yo Contest was held in Chicago from June 29 through July 1. Scholten decided to try and defend his championship in the "Two-Handed Looping Division" and was able to do so, with ease.

"When it comes to competing and getting national titles, it's a great honor to have it and also a great responsibility," said Scholten, 27, who has developed into one of the nation's best yo-yo players. "There's a lot of scouting involved; you have to learn to break down the scoring system; you learn who your competitors are - what they're good at and what they're weak at."

Scholten says he's not sure if he'll return to the competition in 2019 to go for the three-peat. He says he'll make that decision sometime next spring.

Meanwhile, Scholten is teaching yo-yo during the summer months. He started the "Zeeland Yo-Yo Club" which meets two Wednesdays each month from 6 to 8 p.m.

More information about the club can be found on the Facebook page Connor created.
