MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Lineworkers with help from five states have been hard at work for days after Tuesday's massive storm knocked out power to more than 150,000 people statewide.
Consumers Energy said Thursday morning that more than 90 percent of customers have the lights back on thanks to 550 crews working 16-hour shifts.
Outages remain in West Michigan, including the hardest-hit lakeshore communities and Muskegon County.
The power company's goal is to restore power to those still in the dark by the end of the day on Thursday.
“We are deeply grateful to our customers for their patience, and to our dedicated lineworkers for the long shifts they’ve been putting in around the clock for the last two days to finish this restoration process,” said Chris Laird, one of Consumers Energy’s Officers in Charge for restoration. “While there is still more work to be done, we have an incredible number of crews focused on this process, and we’re not stopping until every home and business impacted has the lights back on.”
