MELVINDALE, Mich. — A police officer in the Detroit suburb of Melvindale is dead after a shooting on Sunday afternoon.
The Melvindale Police Department says 23-year-old officer Mohamed Said was shot and killed around 11:30 a.m.
The suspect, 44-year old Michael Lopez, is said to be 6'1 and 245 pounds. He was last seen riding a bicycle shirtless and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Said just graduated from the Police Academy last year, according to the Detroit Police memorial page.
Anyone with information is asked to call Melvindale police or provide a tip to the ATF at 1-888-283-8477.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in conjunction with the Melvindale Police Department and Michigan State Police, is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Lopez's whereabouts.
